What do you guys do?

The clinic is called a Spine and Joint Center and not a Chiropractic Clinic to remind the community that we treat musculoskeletal conditions from head to toe and not just neck and back pain. The doctors are chiropractors that specialize in orthopedic examination, joint manipulation, muscle / nerve / ligament treatment and rehab exercises.

How is In Motion Spine and Joint Center different from most chiropractic offices?

Our goal is to utilize the best examination and treatment techniques from Chiropractors, Orthopedists, and Physical Therapists. Each patient can expect an orthopedic, chiropractic, and functional examination second to none in the field. Treatment will include chiropractic adjustments, different types of stretching, and rehab exercises. Very few offices in the region can offer this extensive knowledge and approach.

One way that Dr. Hawkins differs from other clinics is in his understanding of joint mechanics and Motion Palpation Technique. This gives him the insight to know when a joint should or shouldn’t be adjusted and when muscular or rehab therapy is appropriate.

Stephen M. Barrett, M.D. states to “choose your chiropractor carefully. You can give a pass to any who advertise free evaluations (they’re fishing for suckers) or take loads of x-rays (they’re padding the bill).”

Once you go to a chiropractor will you have to go all the time or forever?

No…Treatment plans are unique to each patient’s condition. At In Motion Spine and Joint Center, our goal is to get patients feeling and functioning well as quickly as possible. At that time, home rehab exercise prescriptions are given to keep the condition from returning and the patient released. Some patients choose to continue wellness care with regular “check-ups” to help with their condition or maintain their health, and we are happy to help. Unlike medical treatment where you take a pill at home, patients must return to our office to get treated, but their time and effort is rewarded with lasting results without side effects.

What effect does a chiropractic adjustment have on joints?

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper motion when performed on the right joint. Beyond increases in passive range of motion, patients can expect physiological effects on the central nervous system, muscle tone effects around the joint, and pain relief. Medical textbooks will tell you that loss of or excessive motion is the cause of joint damage and arthritis.

The audible “click” results from the release of what are thought to be bubbles of nitrogen gas.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe for my neck and back?

Chiropractic is recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for musculoskeletal conditions. No health treatment is completely free of adverse effects, but the doctors at In Motion Spine and Joint Center perform neck and back adjustments that are proven to be the safest and most joint friendly from the Motion Palpation Institute.

Is it safe for me to visit the chiropractor if I am pregnant?

Absolutely!! Dr. Hawkins did an internship at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO in the Musculoskeletal Pain in Pregnancy Clinic. He learned how to evaluate and treat the expectant mother as her body changes during gestation. Around the 28th week of pregnancy the body increases a hormone (relaxin) that helps relax the pelvic joints to allow development and delivery. At that time adjusting is rarely performed for the low back and more soft tissue work and rehab is required. Dr. Hawkins will work hand-in-hand with your Ob/Gyn to provide a safe, natural alternative to some prohibited medications for your pain. Our pregnant patients enjoy excellent results with the assurance that their body and their baby’s health is safe.

Do chiropractors refer patients to other specialists?

Dr. Hawkins always asks the question – “What is best for the patient?” If your condition is best treated at our clinic then we would love to treat you. If you need medical pain relief before starting conservative care, then the doctors have great referral sources right here in Spring Hill. If your condition is best helped at another health care facility, Dr. Hawkins will get you to the right place. Likewise, medical doctors, dentists, podiatrists and other health care professionals often refer patients to our clinic for comprehensive chiropractic care.
